Calibration Exercise

Calibration Exercise. Kritik requires a short Calibration exercise once in the term to be most effective. Here’s how it works: each student will review the same three submissions, randomly chosen from Assignment #1, and give stars just as you would in the Evaluate phase. No written comments, and no Feedback stage. The idea is to set the baseline for how you are interpreting the Rubric, so that Kritik can better score you on your Evaluate steps throughout the term. As you’ve just gone through these problems, and there is no writing to do, I expect it will take you very little time to do the Calibration. I will give it to you tomorrow night and it will be due on Wednesday Sept 29 at 11:00pm. There will be a bonus for participation in this exercise.

The next Kritik will be given next Wednesday.

Kritik 1st Assignment posted!

Important info: Don’t write your name or your ID on your assignment, since this is kept confidential for the people who will “kritik” your assignment.

Read the rubric before writing your answers: you will be evaluated by your peers based on the rubric, so you should make sure that your assignment is clear and complete.

Assignment problems and instructions are on your Kritik account page: Kritik.

You should submit the answers to the assignment on Wednesday Sept 15.

What happens after you submit your assignment:

You will receive 4 randomly selected assignments that you will “kritik” based on the rubric. You will be evaluated for this “Evaluation phase”: you should not only give points, but more importantly you should write useful comments. This is due Monday Sept 20.

Finally, you will receive your assignment with the evaluations and will give feedback on how helpful the evaluations were: this counts on your final grade as well. This is due Wednesday Sept 22.

There will be a calibration exercise right after the feedback process to ensure that the evaluations are done properly and fairly.

TIMELINE:

So the three phases of a Kritik assignment are:

1- Create: solve the problem, write the solution in a clear and complete form. Due Wednesday Sept 15

2- Evaluate: evaluate and comment on the solutions anonymously submitted by 4 classmates. Due Monday Sept 20.

3- Feedback: indicate how helpful the comments on your work were to you. Due Wednesday Sept 22.
